The county roster does not cover everyone. It leaves out people held in state prison, in federal custody, or in another county's jail. How to Use the Berrien County Inmate Roster

Booking Process in Berrien County

When deputies or a local department make an arrest in Berrien County, the person is taken to the jail intake area on Port Street for booking. The center holds a total of 42 beds across three programs, and it serves youth under court supervision, not adults booked into the jail.

Adult Jail vs Juvenile Center

The juvenile center is built around treatment, not just holding. Its 42 beds split across three programs. The secure unit is co-ed, uses single-occupancy rooms, and offers gym time, a fenced outdoor recreation area, and constant video monitoring.

Because the juvenile system is separate, a young person in custody will not appear on the adult jail roster or in the inmate lookup tool. Families reach the Juvenile Center directly by phone during weekday business hours, and no incoming phone calls are allowed for juvenile residents under the center's phone and mail rules.

Berrien County Jail Visitation Hours

Adult jail visits in Berrien County run through internet visitation rather than a crowded lobby. Visitors set up an account with the jail's video visit vendor at berrien.gtlvisitme.com, then schedule a slot. One internet visit each week is free, and extra visits cost ten dollars each. Sessions run 20 minutes, and each person in custody can take up to two visits a day and ten in a week.

Schedule at least one day ahead, and up to five days out. Up to three visitors can join a session, at least one must be an adult, and whoever books it must be 18 or older. Contacting an Inmate in the Berrien County Jail

Mail is one of the main ways to reach someone in the adult jail, but the rules are strict. Incoming personal mail must arrive on a standard-size white postcard with metered postage. Loose stamps are not accepted, picture postcards are barred, and envelopes, packages, and magazines are generally turned away. Staff inspect incoming and outgoing mail every day, and inmate-to-inmate mail needs written approval.

Legal mail is handled differently. Outgoing mail to an attorney or a court is not opened or read, and incoming legal mail may be opened only in the inmate's presence. After 30 days in custody, a person may receive a few family photographs with written approval.

The roster and the lookup tool cover current custody, but some records sit outside the public search. Arrest reports and incident reports are not posted online. Those come through a public records request to the sheriff, handled at the records lobby by appointment.
